(1994, Tupelo/Communion)

A truly seminal album, simultaneously one of the best albums of the new wave of American punk and laying the foundations down for the entire emo movement that would come later, this remains an absolute joy of an album.

READ: There’s some great writing around for this album, as befitting an album of such totemic brilliance. Kerrang! got the band to go through each track for the 25th anniversary, and it’s fascinating. I also love this Drowned in Sound fangasm over the album’s legacy
WATCH: And here’s the band introducing Do You Still Hate Me as ‘a song off our new album’ which makes me hate the approximately hundred or so people there in the venue to witness it.
