(1998, Hieroglyphics Imperium Recordings)

A classic of indie hip hop, released on the crew’s own label and recorded in their own studio, this showcases all the individual talents you’d expect from the likes of Del the Funky Homosapien, Casual, Pep Love, Domino, DJ Toure, and all four of the Souls of Mischief.

But this wasn’t some loose group of rappers fighting for space; on songs like The Who, All Things, and At The Helm Hieroglyphics reached beyond the sum of their parts to create a defining pinnacle of the indie hip hop scene for years to come.

It’s a really shit album cover, though…
