1995, Maverick

A metal debut with no solos by a bunch of stoners in baggy pants put out on Madonna’s label? Who’s gonna buy that? Well, for the most part, nobody, or at least this wasn’t on the radar of too many people in my circle. It wasn’t until the follow-up, Around the Fur exploded Deftones into being the most exciting band in metal that people I knew went back and discovered this absolute gem of an album.

That they’ve just released their ninth album and it still sounds as fresh and exciting as this is nothing short of amazing.
