The album so good it actually beat Nevermind to the top of Spin’s best albums of 1991 list, this may be a triumph of Scottish indie bravura, but its sound is much more transatlantic than that, owing huge debts to Big Star and Neil Young in its abrasive guitars and shimmering melodies.
